How to Travel Cheaply with Your Family

Traveling is undoubtedly one of the best ways to educate yourself about other people’s culture and a good way to bond with your family.

But let’s face it, traveling costs money.

So does it mean you can’t travel while building your wealth?

Definitely not!

Traveling with your family may cost you money but there are ways on how you can still explore places with your loved ones without breaking the bank.

Here are some of the ways on how you can travel cheaply with your family:

1. Plan your travel

You can save more money if you plan your travel well. It’s best to do it weeks or months before your target date so you can have enough time to save up for it. This is a better idea than traveling on a whim and end up spending a big portion of your emergency fund.

It’s also a good idea to set your trip during the lean season. Traveling on special holidays like Christmas, New Year, and national holidays tend to costs more for the obvious reason that there is more demand than supply. Traveling on these days is also more stressful as you get to deal with the traffic and the huge crowd.

2. Cook your own food

Trying out the local food is a good way to fully experience the local culture. But eating out almost everyday during your trip can add up to the cost, leaving you out of the budget. A good strategy for a cheap yet memorable travel experience is keeping a balance between eating out and cooking your own food.

Cooking your own food can save you a lot especially if you’re staying in a place for a week or more. There are hostels or pension houses that allow you to cook your own food either for free or for a small fee.

Cooking won’t just save you money but it’s also a great bonding experience and a good excuse to explore the local market.

3. Join group tours

Joining group tours can save you money especially if you’re covering long distances. It’s also good for the environment as you’re sharing a ride with other people. Plus, it’s a wonderful opportunity for your family to meet and interact with other travelers.

4. Take advantage of promo fare

Gone are the days when traveling by plane can cost you an arm and leg. With budget airlines throwing promo fare every now and then, there’s no reason why you can’t travel by air cheaply with your family.

Hint: Most airlines throw promo fares on special holidays. So watch out for it. Make sure you have liked their Facebook page or subscribed to their newsletter to stay updated with their special rates.

5. Use the public transport

Public transport may not be as comfortable as AC private vehicles but it’s a cheaper way to travel especially if you’re just a small family. It’s also more fun as you get to interact with the locals.

Building wealth doesn’t translate to having a bland or dull life. Even those who have succeeded in building wealth recognize the value of giving in to small pleasures. After all, living is more than just about the money; it’s about relationships and building wonderful memories with those who truly matter.
