But did you know that even with the common predicament that we all share, you’re still able to save as much as 10,000 a month? Let me share with you some money saving tips that have helped me save thousands each month.

A Kuripot’s Guide To Giving Tips

Tipping is one good way to show our appreciation for a service. This spans getting our hair and makeup done, eating at restaurants and what not. However, the question remains if a tip would be suggested or not. This holds true for kuripots like me and for others. To give or not to give? To tip or not to tip? If to give and to top, just how much is enough.

Street Food To Fortune

Who would have thought that a mere street food can lead to fortune? Can you even imagine that? I for one can’t. However let Reymont Choachuy break that misconception. As a matter of fact he did. Because of his love for customary street food, he was able to establish his own empire. Now, he is not only enjoying those food items like us but he is also earning a lot. Such passion made him one successful entrepreneur and truly deserves a spot in today’s post.

Save It Instead Challenge

Image from dumblittleman

Last month, I wrote about the Saving Your SpendingChallenge. If you are keen to save money yet you cannot do the 52 Week Money Challenge, this can be a good way for you to start. The concept of the SavingYour Spending Challenge is to equate your savings in accordance to your spending. For example, if you would go buy a ticket for the movies, consider if the amount for the movie tickets would be something you can save as well. If yes, allocate the other amount for savings and the other would be buying for the ticket. If not, then it is apparent that you got serious financial problems. Hence, for every expense, you are trying to save the same amount too.

How The Label Kuripot Hurts Me, Not

Image from ladolcevitra

Before having this blog, I have always been kuripot. When the blog came to life, most of my friends and everyone who knows me label me as such. I know being kuripot is a good thing however we often have that bad reputation when it comes to money and finances. Most of the time, we are accused of being stingy and controlling. And that hurts you know.

And in all honesty, frugality is not stingy.

Allow me to break it down.

Let me begin by defining the two words in the context of the dictionary. According from the thefreedictionary.com, being frugal is practicing or marked by economy, as in the expenditure of money or the use of material resources. Stingy on the other hand is spending reluctantly and unwilling to give.

Based from the dictionary definitions, frugality is way different than being stingy. As such, kuripot individuals are practical and have a goal in mind. They just don’t squander their money with just about anything.

However, this does not mean that they are not generous. In fact they are willing to assist in any way they can. I clearly remember an individual’s remark that I should not be consulted with regards to money loan since I am kuripot. I was taken aback by that! Is my being kuripot prohibits me from consulting such? It seems that the kuripot label has a bad connotation. No wonder most would take it negatively if you remark them as such.

Let me change your perspective.

Kuripot or frugality is a different mindset. Individuals who are thrifty as previously stated have a goal when it comes to their money. Their goal is not to accumulate money and wealth for the sake of collecting it. Most of the time, their goal is to stretch their income to cover their necessities. They also tend to save up to achieve something big like for education’s sake, building  a house, put up a business, pay debts, build their emergency fund and invest.

The goal of such is not to make your life miserable and to not make other life’s miserable too. You are just simply maximizing the use of your money. A frugal person simply changes his spending habits. They splurge yes however only a handful. They are keen towards spending their money to things that matter to them like goal realization, for their family, friends and others.

I am a frugal person. I know where to put my money and how to use it. And even more, I am keen towards achieving my financial goals. However, this does not prohibit me to help anyone financially. In spite of me being kuripot, I am not at all stingy and selfish. I do people favors.  Bottom line is, I’m proud being kuripot.

52 Week Money Challenge Update

Can you believe it? We are halfway there! It just feels like yesterday we started the challenge. So allow me to ask you these questions.

So how’s your 52 Week Money Challenge so far?

Are you having a hard time saving or a good time?

Are you consistent with it?

Did you stop somewhere? Why?

Remember this is a challenge after all.

For those who have been religiously following the challenge, now is the time to not give up. Remember we are almost there.

With that, I am just so excited to give you a quick update with regards to my 52 Week Money Challenge. My apologies for the not so beautiful paper anymore. It has been through a lot of highlighting, just look at the varied highlighter colors.

I am proud to say that so far I have saved 43,650! Yes, yes, yes! I am just so excited! If you are wondering how I made that considering that it is just Week 27 in the challenge, I opted to save in advance every salary in order to cater to the bigger amounts at the end of the year. Sacrifices were made in the process like eating oatmeal instead of dining out every lunch. Even more, I tend not to shop anymore for new clothes and shoes.

I am excited to finish the challenge so I can be able to dump the entire amount to my current investment.
Anyone can start the challenge. You don’t need to wait for next year to make it happen. Even more, you can lower the amount or you can aim for the higher increments. Remember, if you have the goal and the determination to save, you can realize it.

Salute to the individuals who are doing the challenge still. You are one brave soul my friend. For the others, may you be inspired to save!

Let It Go, Let It Go: Expenses I Let Go

Image from prairieecothrifter

In my pursuit to lessen my expenses every month, I tried my very best to ditch on expenses that are eating the most of my salary. This is so in order for me to be able to maximize the potential of my money and even more redirect my income to other ventures such as savings and investment. I simply want to fatten up my investment rather than fatten up my expenses. That is why at the beginning of the year and even until today, I have been letting go. Yes I did sing Let it Go when Frozen was still at its peak if you asked me. Well don’t blame me. That was one catchy song in the first place. Oh the kid in me is giggling.

I am not telling you to let go of these expenses should it prove helpful on your end. This is my take. Remember, assess first your financial goals and your priorities and so is your income. If the bulk of your money goes to these, perhaps you might want to rethink and create a budget. Your expenses must be way lower than your income. Because should the reverse happen, you will be in serious debt.
As such, here are the expenses I let go.

Credit Card. I have been aiming before to reduce the number of my credit cards. However now, I totally eliminate it. I never imagined that there would come a day that I would get rid all of it. By that I was able to pay off credit card debts and even more not a cent from my income goes to credit cards. But hey I can no longer be able to book airline tickets since I no longer have a card. Yet my good friends can be able to do my bookings on my behalf.

Postpaid Plan. I had issues with my former postpaid plan provider hence by the time my contract expired I see to it to never renew and even get one in another provider. I just opted back to prepaid. Although there’s that hassle of loading every now and then but I tend to stick with my 500 pesos load budget. Unlike with my postpaid, my bills zoom to thousands of pesos although there is that limit cap of 3,000. But having to save thousands in the process is pretty much a big deal.

Lunching out. I am still eating lunch don’t worry. It is just I was able to devise a mechanism that would help save money yet eat healthy at the same time. I just tend to buy a pack of oatmeal and milk every month and have my lunch in the office instead of going out. The entire pack of oatmeal lasts for two weeks since my boyfriend is also eating at my place of work. The costs is just less than 300 pesos and we divide it so in two weeks we only get to spend 150 pesos for our lunch. Before we tend to eat outside where every meal cost us 100. If we do a very quick math that is 100 times 10 lunches in two weeks hence that would be 1,000. With the new method, I am able to save as much as 850. Plus oatmeal is healthy.

I bet there are some expenses in your life that you can lessen and even get rid of. This will be a process and cannot be done immediately. It will take time yet the results would be great. Align it with your financial goals and even more with the money you saved, make sure you would be able to maximize and take profit from it. With that, allow me to say good luck!

By the way, I am back!
